The highly anticipated Xiaomi 17 Ultra is set to debut in China next week, with December 26th being the likely launch date. Similar to the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, the main focus will be on cameras, making use of Leica technology. The real upgrade is the continuous optical zoom with around 3x to 7x zoom capability .

Xiaomi 17 Ultra may feature continuous optical zoom
A recent report claims the Xiaomi 17 Ultra ’s telephoto lens will likely arrive with continuous zoom tech. This will make images sharper with clearer details. The telephoto lens will come with continuous optical zoom technology and support a 70mm to 100mm equivalent focal length, covering a zoom range of 3x to 7x.

In continuous optical zoom, the lenses physically move to offer lossless zoom across a range. This means sharpness at every point instead of switching between fixed lenses. This advanced tech will deliver clearer images, without pixelating from digital zoom.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra will also get a circular rear camera module as previous leaks revealed . This setup could include a 200MP Samsung S5KHPE sensor, which supports continuous optical zoom technology. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be the first phone to use a Leica APO zoom camera, delivering superior macro images regardless of the lighting conditions.

Compared to the quad sensors of Xiaomi 15 Ultra, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will only get triple cameras — a 200MP lens, a 50MP OVX10500U primary camera and a 50MP OV50M or a 50MP S5KJN5 ultrawide lens. Regarding performance, it will likely feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It comes with a 6.85-inch OLED display with a high refresh rate, and blazing-fast 100W fast charging.
After making its debut in China, it will gradually expand to global markets in the first quarter of 2026.
