For years now, Google has offered a way to make non-Gmail inboxes feel like a part of your emails. That feature is called Gmailify, but it is soon to be removed.

On the company’s support page , Google states that Gmailify will be discontinued this month. With the feature removed, Gmail will no longer apply features like spam protection, inbox categories, advanced search, or enhanced notifications to third-party email accounts such as Yahoo or Outlook.

Google Gmail address change and Gmailify discontinued - 2

Gmailify linked your other email address to your Gmail account and pulled messages into your inbox, and Gmail would treat them like they were Gmail messages. With multiple inboxes, Gmail would filter and organise them all in one place.

For non-Gmail accounts, this Gmail feature will cease to work . You’ll be able to read existing imported messages, but third-party messages won’t be prioritised. Gmail will also drop support for fetching emails from other providers using POP. Gmailify depended on this process, so without it, the “Check mail from other accounts” option will disappear from the Gmail web version. Third-party messages in your inbox before this change will remain there.

It doesn’t mean Google won’t let you access other email accounts through Gmail. You’ll just have fewer options. You can add third-party accounts to the Gmail app on Android and iOS using a standard IMAP connection, or by setting up automatic forwarding from your email provider so new messages can keep going to your Gmail.

The company didn’t state the reason for discontinuing the Gmailify feature. Possible reasons could be cost or system reasons. It could also be a way of encouraging users to get a Gmail address to enjoy the full Gmail experience.
