In the smartphone world, there are two forks – one owned by Apple and the other owned by Google. iPhone 13 Pro Max and Pixel 6 Pro are the 2021 premium flagship products of these two competitors in the smartphone space. Naturally, there is competition between them. At the very least, you want to know which takes better photos and which has better battery life.

Raw specifications do not always tell the complete story, but with testers and reviewers around the world coming back with their experiences, it is easier to have a picture of what to expect from these two devices.

Which has better battery life, and which has better cameras, between the iPhone 13 Pro Max and Pixel 6 Pro? - 1

iPhone 13 Pro Max and Pixel 6 Pro: Battery Life Comparison

For the first time in history, Google’s 2021 smartphones pack good battery capacities. The Pixel 5a 5G has a decent 4680 mAh battery and has the best battery life of any Made by Google smartphone ever. The Pixel 6 has 4614 mAh, while the 6 Pro shows up with a massive 5003 mAh battery. That is a solid one.

Apple’s iPhones do not have a history of solid batteries either. The coincidence. The iPhone 13 Pro Max has come to the fight with a 4352 mAh battery. It is a respectable one, considering the paltry battery capacities we have seen in previous generations of iPhones.

Looking at the raw figures of 5003 mAh versus 4352 mAh for the iPhone 13 Pro Max and Pixel 6 Pro respectively, the layman would be forgiven for thinking this automatically means that the Pixel has better battery life. But battery capacity alone is not the determinant of battery life. Other factors like screen size, resolution, and refresh rate, processor, and network capabilities also contribute to a device’s battery life.

Which is where real life usage and tests come to play. And the feedback from testers and reviews globally are all in favour of Apple’s 2021 champion, the 13 Pro Max. It has much better battery life than Google Pixel 6 Pro. Surprise! Surprise!!

What are the figures? Using GSMArena’s tests, the iPhone 13 Pro Max has an endurance rating of 122 hours, against the Pixel 6 Pro’s 84 hours. That is a massive difference in battery life, and the iPhone easily wins this.

iPhone 13 Pro Max and Pixel 6 Pro: Photography Comparison

What of camera performance? Which of these two top dogs take better photos? For this, we will depend on the results from DXOmark’s tests. The iPhone 13 Pro Max scores 137, while the Pixel 6 Pro scores 135. That is a difference of two points. In real life, we doubt that many humans will be able to tell any differences in the quality of photos taken by the iPhone 13 Pro Max and Pixel 6 Pro.

In summary, between iPhone 13 Pro Max and Pixel 6 Pro, the former has much better battery life. It also has higher scores for its cameras, though the difference isn’t significant.

We are not sure that anyone will switch from Apple to Google, or vice versa, on account of battery life or of camera performance. It hardly works like that. Ardent fans are usually deeply locked into the respective ecosystems and do not switch easily. So, this comparison is probably for kicks and banter between the respective fanboys and girls.

There are always odd situations, though, in which someone might actually make a switch based on these criteria. If you are one such person, now you have information to act on. Whichever camp you belong to, and for whatever reason you were interested in this information, Apple has won the 2021 competition. The iPhone 13 Pro Max beats the Pixel 6 Pro as far as battery life and camera performance are concerned.

When talking about premium budget smartphones, it is easy to consider models from brands like Xiaomi, OnePlus, TECNO, and other brands. Samsung Mobile has been traditionally identified with premium flagship phones, and indeed phones that cost more than the competition.

But this is 2022, and you would be making a mistake to ignore the Korean brand when shopping for a premium budget phone, especially with a model like Samsung A52s 5G in the picture. But just to be sure, I should define what I mean by premium budget smartphone.

It is a phone that has premium features but costs much less premium flagships or the top dogs. They are not exactly flagship killers, but they pack so much value for the price that they are the cream of the crop in the budget smartphone segment.

Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is a premium budget smartphone - 2

Why Samsung A52s 5G?

The original Samsung A52 was a good device, but it wasn’t as competitive as many would have loved it to be. The A52s was an iteration of it, with improved specs, and the A52s 5G further improved on that, and without costing significantly more. The result was a highly capable, feature-packed premium mid-ranger that is worthy of the attention of bargain/value buyers.

Samsung A52s 5G is equipped with a 6.5-inch, 1080 x 2400 pixels, Super AMOLED screen with 120 Hz refresh rate, Gorilla Glass 5. The plastic shell is IP67-rated, meaning it has dust and water resistance (can survive up to 1 metre in water for 30 minutes).

On the inside is a Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset as the power house, and that is coupled with options of 6 and 8 GB RAM. Internal storage options include 128 GB and 256 GB. In all, there are four memory options – 6/128 GB, 6/256 GB, 8/128 GB, and 8/256 GB. A shared memory card slot allows you to expand the available memory.

For photography and video recording, there is a 64MP triple camera at the back, and a 32-megapixel selfie camera in a centred punch hole at the top of the display.

To keep the lights on is a respectable 4500 mAh battery. From what we have read and heard from reviewers, the battery does a good job of providing dependable battery life, and you shouldn’t have to worry about running out of battery juice. For charging, you get 25W fast charge, which is a fair deal for preserving its battery health.

Lastly, this is a most recent device, as it was only released in September 2021. It shipped with Samsung’s custom UI, One UI version 3.1, which is based on Android 11. Samsung has promised three major software updates, so you can expect the A52s 5G to get Android 12, Android 13, and Android 14 years down the road. If experience is anything to go by, those updates likely won’t arrive as fast as many users would love, but as it is said, better late than never. The premium flagship devices will definitely get updated first before the goodies trickle down to the A52s 5G.

The fingerprint scanner is embedded in the display. There are stereo speakers. There is also USB Type-C, USB On-The-Go, NFC, and Wi-Fi 6 . And if you are resident in the USA and several other score countries where 5G is commercially available, Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G has got you covered with its extensive range of 5G bands.

Samsung A52s 5G is available in four colour schemes, Awesome Black, Awesome White, Awesome Purple, and Awesome Mint. Prices start from $420 for the base, 6/128 GB memory variant. That base price is a sweet spot that should see people part with their money, happily, for the phone.

What is the best Samsung phone for the money?

If you were to ask me which is the best Samsung phone for the money, I would argue that the A52s 5G is one of those to consider, if not the clear winner.

Any Alternatives to Samsung A52s 5G?

If you’d rather look away from Samsung, I have already written about the OnePlus Nord 2 5G , which is a compelling package worthy of the premium budget smartphone crown too. I am sure you can find a handful of other contenders if you look around, depending on your location. But if you need a highly capable premium budget smartphone, chances are that the A52s 5G is one of those you will find in most countries.
