You are probably here because you already know that you can get most of the features and performance of a $1,000 smartphone in the best $300 phones.

The Best $300 Phones of 2021
All the smartphones on this list have high refresh rate displays (90 Hz or 120 Hz), 8 GB RAM, 128 GB ROM (internal storage memory), and at least 33W fast charging. All of them are also powered by capable upper mid-range chipsets. So, as already mentioned, they all deliver solid, near-premium performance.
- Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro . This is a 2021 model, runs Android 11, and has a 6.67-inch LCD with 120 Hz refresh rate and gorilla Glass 6 protection. Under the hood is a powerful Snapdragon 860 processor, and it delivers all the power you can dream of at the price point. You can find the 6/128 GB variant for $249 and the 8/228 GB variant for $299 on Banggood. If you are buying in the United States (USA), the price on eBay is about $340. Don’t ask me why. In the United Kingdom (UK), you can pick a 6/128 GB for £249 and 8/128 GB (which is our focus here) for £299.
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro . Announced just this year as well, this is one of the most value-packed smartphones around in 2021. It runs Android 11, and has a 6.67-inch 120 Hz refresh rate AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The Snapdragon 732G processor delivers near-flagship performance. It has three memory variants, which are available internationally, as follows: 6/64 GB for $279, 6/128 GB for $299, and 8/128 GB (again, our focus here) for $329. In Nigeria, those variants come to ₦116,000, ₦126,500, and ₦135,000 respectively.
- Infinix Zero 8 . The Zero 8 has a massive 6.85-inch LCD with 90 Hz refresh rate, runs Android 10, and is powered by a Helio G90T processor and is available in an 8/128 GB trim. It sells for $250 across Asia and €210 in the European Union region. You will find it for ₦123,000 at Slot, Pointek, and other stores in Nigeria as well. In Ghana, it is available for GHS 1,549, while it sells for Ksh. 28,500 in Kenya.
- TECNO Camon 16 Premier . Powered by a Helio G90T processor and running Android 10 out of the box, this TECNO phone model has a 6.85-inch IPS LCD with 90 Hz refresh rate. It is available for 230 euro. In Nigeria, you can pick one up for ₦120,000 at Slot, Pointek, and other stores. It sells for KSh 28,999 in Kenya, and for as low as GH₵ 1,540 in Ghana through online stores like Jumia and others.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro
All the above smartphones have 33W fast charging technology. As far as I am concerned, 33W fast charging is a very sweet spot you don’t ever want to step down from. Their battery capacities vary from 4500 to 5160 mAh. That is a good range to be in, and you don’t have to worry about battery life.
These smartphones are available in many more countries than I am able to list here, so check at your local retailer or your favourite online store. I hope this list helps you with your budget phone shopping.

The Apple iPhone 11 was released in September 2019, making it about a year and half old in the market right now, but it is easily my best iPhone model right now, and the one I’d buy today.
That might sound odd to smartphone enthusiasts, who’d normally go for the latest shiny model. That would be the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and it is also the most powerful iPhone around today? So, why is the iPhone 11 my favourite model?
I lay out my reasons below.

Apple iPhone 11 is my best or favourite iPhone model
Battery Life
iPhones have a nasty reputation with battery life. If you have never used an Android premium flagship smartphone and experienced the bliss of not having to look for a charger every few hours, you’d never understand.
But as someone who has experienced that for years, should I ever have to switch to iOS, battery life would be high on my list of priorities. And the iPhone 11 has good battery life, one that is significantly better than that of its successor, the iPhone 12.
To be sure, it doesn’t have the best. The 11 Pro Max and 12 Pro Max have marginally better battery life, but they lose a few points on another factor that is important to me.
Compact Size
I want my smartphones compact in size. In 2021, that’s anything that maxes out at 6.2 inches in general.
With 6.5-inch displays, the size factor eliminates the Pro Max models. I can give up the marginal extra battery life to have a smartphone that feels more comfy in my hand.
And that phone is the iPhone 11 with it’s nice 6.1-inch display and comfy size.
I am not worried about photography and video recording, because again, the differences between what the iPhone 11 and the 11 Pro Max and 12 Pro Max offer are not that big. I can live with that.
Also, I am not worried about performance. The Apple A13 Bionic chipset and 4 GB RAM in the iPhone 11 is a competent combination and delivers effortlessly.
In summary, Apple iPhone 11 is my favourite iPhone model today because it offers good battery life and good performance in a compact body. Thankfully, it also has 18W fast charging, so the battery gets topped up fast.
Thanks to Apple’s reputation with software updates, the iPhone 11 is also up-to-date in terms of software. What is not to like about it?

Which is your favourite iPhone model?
It is great to own the latest and greatest model of your favourite phone brand. But sometimes, the latest model is not what’s best for you.
If battery life and compact size are top priorities for you, you should have a look at the iPhone 11. If they are not, you must figure out which of the available modules fit your specific needs or wants. Your phone; your preferences.
So, share yours. Which is your favourite iPhone model, and what about it makes it your preferred?
