Google has unveiled Personal Intelligence for Gemini and it’s an opt-in feature. This is so because when you turn it on, it securely connects info from apps like Gmail, YouTube, Google Search, and Google Photos, and Gemini then uses it in its conversations with you.

Those in the US can access it or select which apps they want connected to Gemini by going to the Gemini app or website, then to Settings > Personal Intelligence. According to Google, Personal Intelligence works across text, photos, and video to provide tailored answers. It has its key strength in retrieving specific details from your personal items, like emails and photos, to answer your questions.

Once Personal Intelligence is enabled, Gemini accesses your data to answer your specific requests and to do things for you. You don’t have to send sensitive data to start personalising your experience.

Using temporary chats, you can engage in a conversation with Gemini without personalisation. Gemini avoids making assumptions about sensitive data like your health. It only discusses it with you when asked.

Google further explains that Gemini won’t be trained directly on your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library. It will be trained on limited information, such as specific prompts in Gemini and the model’s responses, to improve functionality over time.

Even though many web browsers like Edge, Brave, Firefox, and others offer a vertical tab layout, Google Chrome , the king of web browsers , has refused to include this feature. It seems like years of reluctance for Google may finally come to an end.

Google Chrome vertical tabs - 2

In November last year, Google worked to add a vertical tab alignment to Chrome, but it was limited to Chrome Canary. The feature is going wider as it has been spotted in Chrome Beta for the first time.

An X user, @bramus, highlighted that vertical tabs are now live in Chrome Beta (currently Chrome 145), although it’s hidden behind a flag. According to Google’s normal schedule, we should get the feature in Chrome stable on January 28.

The flag works in both Chrome beta and Canary, but not in the stable version yet. Go to chrome://flags/#vertical-tabs and enable the flag in beta or Canary to use the feature. Once enabled, you can try out the feature by right-clicking the tab bar and clicking the new ‘Show tabs on side’ option.

After clicking the button, the entire tab strip, including all currently open tabs, are moved to the side. Right-clicking anywhere in the vertical layout will highlight a “Show tabs at the top” button, which makes Chrome go back to the original horizontal tab layout.
