Can you Airdrop from iPhone to Android? While you cannot use Apple’s proprietary AirDrop feature to send files directly from an iPhone to an Android phone because AirDrop is designed to work exclusively between Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac), you can share and send files between your iPhone and other Android devices using any of multiple Airdrop alternatives.

Alternatives for iPhone to Android File Transfer

While AirDrop itself is not compatible with Android devices, there are several fast and easy cross-platform methods you can use to transfer files wirelessly between the two platforms:

Web-Based Tools

Web-based tools like Snapdrop or ShareDrop are excellent, free, open-source web applications that mimic AirDrop’s functionality. To use these, simply open the website (e.g., Snapdrop.net) in the web browser on both the iPhone and the Android device while they are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. The devices will discover each other, and you can simply tap the recipient’s icon to share a file.

It works smoothly and is straightforward, and it also works for sharing files from an iPhone to a PC. You can watch this video tutorial to see it demonstrated.

Third-Party Apps

In addition to Web-based platforms, there are a number of third-party apps that offer similar functionality to Airdrop, so you can share files across iPhone and Android devices. These apps include LocalSend (which I use regularly), AirDroid , and Send Anywhere .

LocalSend requires both devices to be active o the same Wi-Fi network. It is free to use and offers fast, encrypted file transfers without relying on external servers.

Send Anywhere allows you to share files between an Android device and an iPhone using a temporary 6-digit key. Unlike LocalSend, the devices don’t even need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.

In the video below , I demonstrate how to use LocalSend to Airdrop from iPhone to any Android phone (Samsung, OnePlus, Motorola, Google Pixel, TECNO, Xiaomi, etc).

Moving your eSIM phone number between two Android phones is quite easy. It becomes more complicated moving your eSIM between iOS and Android devices. Although Apple and Google have made efforts to simplify the process in iOS 26 and Android 16, you still need to contact your carrier to make the shift. Samsung is working to streamline the process between your iPhone and Galaxy phone.

eSIM transfer from an iPhone to a Galaxy phone - 2

The upcoming Samsung update, One UI 8.5, will include the option to port an eSIM phone number from an iPhone to a Galaxy device without involving your carrier. If Samsung makes this change, iPhone users will find it easier to make the switch to Android.

A string of code in a leaked build of One UI 8.5 points to the change (from Android Authority ).

Code

<code>&lt;string name="esim_add_d2d_xos_transfer"&gt;Transfer SIM from iPhone&lt;/string&gt;</code>

Similar to how One UI 8 gives you the option of transferring an eSIM from another phone when you’re setting up on a new device, One UI 8.5 will give you a similar option, except this time there will be two options specific to the type of device—one from an Android phone and the other an iOS.

One UI 8.5 hasn’t officially made its release to devices yet, but the One UI 8.5 beta will reportedly roll out during the last week of November for selected devices. It is likely Galaxy S25, Z Fold 7, and Z Flip 7 will be eligible devices. It is uncertain whether Samsung plans to introduce this eSIM transfer feature into the beta update or wait till the official launch of stable One UI 8.5 next year.
