Add MobilityArena as a preferred source on Google
This is not coming as a surprise, as no Blackberry phones were announced or released all through 2019. The writing on the wall was already visible. And now, in a statement made public today, it is now official that TCL will no longer manufacture and sell new BlackBerry-branded smartphones.
The partnership between BlackBerry Ltd and TCL lasted 3 years, with a handful of BlackBerry phones, including BlackBerry KEYone, Motion, KEY2 and KEY2 LE, released. The official statement from BlackBerry/TCL reads:
TCL discontinues BlackBerry phones
When TCL Communication announced in December 2016 that we had entered into a brand licensing and technology support agreement with BlackBerry Limited to continue making new, modern BlackBerry smartphones available globally we were very excited and humbled to take on this challenge. Indeed our KEY Series smartphones, starting with KEYone, were highly-anticipated by the BlackBerry community. What made these devices great wasn’t just the hardware developed and manufactured by TCL Communication, but also the critical security and software features provided by BlackBerry Limited to ensure these were genuine BlackBerry devices. The support of BlackBerry Limited was an essential element to bringing devices like BlackBerry KEYone, Motion, KEY2 and KEY2 LE to life and we’re proud to have partnered with them these past few years on those projects. We do regret to share however that as of August 31, 2020, TCL Communication will no longer be selling BlackBerry-branded mobile devices. TCL Communication has no further rights to design, manufacture or sell any new BlackBerry mobile devices, however TCL Communication will continue to provide support for the existing portfolio of mobile devices including customer service and warranty service until August 31, 2022 – or for as long as required by local laws where the mobile device was purchased. For those of us at TCL Communication who were blessed enough to work on BlackBerry Mobile, we want to thank all our partners, customers and the BlackBerry fan community for their support over these past few years. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to meet so many fans from all over the world during our world tour stops. The future is bright for both TCL Communication and BlackBerry Limited, and we hope you’ll continue to support both as we move ahead on our respective paths. From everyone who worked on the BlackBerry Mobile team at TCL Communication over the years, we want to say ‘Thank You’ for allowing us to be part of this journey.
BlackBerry has struggled to gain a firm footing since it switched from its pioneer proprietory operating system, BlackBerry OS to BlackBerry 10 and then to Android OS.
Part of why the brand has struggled in recent times is the relatively steep prices that BlackBerry-branded phones commanded in the market when compared to the competition. While it offers better security features than the average Android phone, that was not enough to convince buyers to pay the premium prices.
As has been expressed before, smartphone consumers have voted against secure smartphones, among other classes of phones that do not sell much .
Is this the final end of BlackBerry phones or will BlackBerry Ltd try again to gain a footing in a market that it once ruled?
Meanwhile, as TCL discontinues BlackBerry phones, it has announced the first of its own branded smartphones .

With January already out of the way, Samsung is sending the February security updates to most of its devices. However, a number of the company’s smartphones are still receiving the January updates with the Samsung Galaxy S7 the latest to receive this update.
The Galaxy S7 has spent around four years on the market, with its unveiling in March of 2016. However, Samsung has continued to ensure that the device is constantly updated. The January security update has already been released for Galaxy S7 users in the UK, for now it is limited to users with O2 as their carrier.

The update brings no sort of new features or improvements, rather just comes with the latest security fix. Currently, the update is out only for Galaxy S7 users but is expected to debut on the Galaxy S7 edge anytime soon. It wields firmware version G930FXXS7ETA7 and can be easily installed over the air from the phone’s Settings» Software update menu .
You could also follow another route and get the update by downloading the firmware for the new update from Samsung’s firmware archive and then proceeding to install it with a Windows PC.
With the new update, you can effectively ensure that your Galaxy S7 maintains its level of security, and also keep your device protected.
