Smart tags available to Android are provided by brands like Samsung and Motorola, such as the SmartTag2 and Moto Tag 2. iOS users have Apple’s AirTag2 instead. The smart tag market will welcome a new brand entirely, Xiaomi . A new leak reveals details of Xiaomi’s first smart tag, called the Xiaomi Tag.

Xiaomi Tag may have two versions

Sometime last year, there were rumours of the smart tag making its debut on December 26th, but that didn’t happen. A tipster, leaker Kacper Skrzypek on X , shared that Xiaomi is working on its item tracker based on the translated files within HyperOS. According to him, it’ll be similar to Galaxy SmartTag 2. The area of interest is that there will be two versions of the Xiaomi Tag: one with UWB and one without.

How will #XiaomiTag look? That’s what I found in #HyperOS code! – Similar to Galaxy SmartTag 2 – 2 models: one with UWB, one without – CR2032 battery, same as in Samsung – looks like China only for now? (or CN app has only Chinese entries? We will see…) pic.twitter.com/KT3ayFXhs4 — Kacper Skrzypek 🇵🇱 (@kacskrz) January 23, 2026

The tracker will be powered by a CR2032 coin battery, so it can easily be replaced just like Samsung’s. The tipster also shared details on how the Xiaomi Tag would work.

The Xiaomi Tag could only launch in China for now

The pairing is a simple process. It only takes peeling off the label and bringing it close to your phone. You’ll be able to view the Xiaomi Tag’s location on a map, and just like existing smart tags, you’ll be notified when you leave it behind .

For now, though, the Xiaomi Tag will only launch in the company’s home market, China, the leaker points out. While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, there’s the possibility of Xiaomi expanding the Xiaomi Tag to the global markets.

Samsung will be adopting a new display technology into its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 foldable . This will allow it to decrease the visible crease by about 20%, at least that’s what was stated. How the visibility of creases is mentioned is not exactly clear, but the display will be somewhat smoother than the current Galaxy Z Fold 7 .

The company will use UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) for both the display’s top layer and the bottom end. Also, Samsung will apply a laser-drilled metal support plate to reinforce the foldable structure, which will help to reduce the crease . This approach is different from Apple’s iPhone Fold that is rumoured to use a glass substrate instead, but still get its foldable display from Samsung.

During CES 2026, Samsung showcased a foldable display without a crease. It’s not certain if the company will use the same display for the Z Fold 8, but it will work towards implementing the idea.
