Samsung is planning a larger Galaxy Z Fold for 2026. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is fairly large, on average the size of most smartphones, but with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, things might be different . The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will have a larger second model with an 18:9 aspect ratio for the front display. It won’t be as wide as the Google Pixel Fold or the OPPO Find N2.

With an 18:9 aspect ratio for the front, the inner display would be a perfect square at 18:18. This report is from a GSMA listing with the model number SM-F971, which was originally believed to be the Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE . Now it seems to align closely with the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 (SM-F976). Of course, the final launch might not include this model, as companies release many prototypes before finalising a product.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 similar to Galaxy Fold 8 - 3

This might be part of Samsung’s dual-fold strategy for next year. It is not clear if this will be a high-end Galaxy foldable or like an affordable FE model. By July, such details should be clear since Samsung has the custom of not announcing its foldables until July.

Cheaper foldables could increase sales

The major problem consumers have with foldables, particularly book-style foldables, is the pricing. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 sells for $1,999 and can be as low as $1,599 for Black Friday sales. Either way, it’s still a chunk of cash to part with for a phone.

If the rumoured second foldable is like a Galaxy Z Fold 8 FE, and starts at a lower price around the $1599 price tag, more people would be willing to buy it. Although it’s still pricey compared to the iPhone 17 Pro Max and Google Pixel 10 Pro XL, which both cost $1199, and the $1299 Galaxy S25 Ultra, it will still make a significant difference from the current $1999 Galaxy Z Fold 7.

With Samsung seeking to increase foldable sales by 10% with the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip 8 series next year, a second book-style foldable at a lower price would not be a bad idea.
