The Freedom Phone is built around the concept of making America great again and seeks to make a great phone that Americans can be proud of. That is easier said than done, though. The key promise of this new smartphone is that it allows you the liberty to install and run any app you want – including those that have been censored on competing platforms.

So, how does it work? Nobody knows for now. The Freedom Phone’s official website does not offer any details, except that it has a 6-inch display and runs “Freedom OS”. Freedom OS is described as “the first mass-marketable mobile phone operating system based on free speech.”

The Freedom Phone

We are not sure exactly what that means. Is it a fork of Android with Google services stripped off? That isn’t mentioned, but that is what it likely is. There is no other mobile platform that offers the catalogue of apps that Android does. Which is why every new mobile operating system offering “freedom” or “privacy” is built on Android Open Source .

As the name suggests, Android Open Source Project is the open source base of Android, and it is free for everyone and anyone to use. It is devoid of Google services and apps. The regular Android OS that most other manufacturers use is the version that Google has integrated its services and apps into. All regular Android apps are compatible with it, except for those that depend on Google services to function.

So, Freedom OS is likely built on AOSP and so is a fork of Android. What else do we know about the Freedom Phone? We are told that it has “some of the most popular banned and unbanned conservative sites and apps” pre-loaded directly on it. Hopefully, you will also have the liberty to uninstall the one you do not want to use.

Where is the Freedom Phone made?

Place of production is a key factor in the discussions about making a great smartphone for America, but there was no immediate mention of where the Freedom Phone is being manufactured. There is some discomfort among the “Make America Great” movement about the fact that there are no mainstream smartphones made in the USA any more, and a frown against phones that are made in China . China is where most of the world’s mobile phones are now made.

Manufacturing in China is a question of economy of scale, and if the Freedom Phone is made elsewhere, there are sacrifices to be made, especially in price. The Freedom Phone website lists it as available for $500. But without any details of the specifications , we cannot tell at this time whether this is a steep price. One thing is sure: if it is not made in China, the price will be steep for whatever specs it offers.

We do know that the official website lists Wyoming in the United States as the address of the manufacturer. Which doesn’t say much. Most other brands have their address in countries different from the country of manufacture.

The Freedom Phone is being offered as an unlocked smartphone that you can use on any network by just popping in the SIM card of your choice and that it works on “Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and all other domestic and international carriers”. This suggests that it is compatible with both GSM and CDMA carriers. Will it support all bands? Is it a 4G or 5G phone?

I wish we had more details, especially the specifications, so we can have a fairer view of where this stands. I would really love to see what technologies and standards have been deployed here. But we will get them eventually, as soon as a unit of the phone gets into someone’s hands.

When can you expect to be able to buy the Freedom Phone from the stores? The manufacturer says August 2021 is the expected shipping date. We are keeping fingers crossed.

Update : It was later reported that in an interview with The Daily Beast , the founder, Erik Finman, confirmed that the phone was manufactured by UMIDIGI, a Chinese company. That puts to rest the question of where the Freedom Phone is manufactured. It also gives an idea of the specs to expect. UMIDIGI makes budget smartphones, and so you may expect no more than mid-range specs.

It is February 2021 and Samsung has just announced its new incoming lineup to the Awesome series (A series). Among the three devices announced, the A32 stood out from the rest. It housed a new camera cutout that is very different from its predecessor the A31 and kind of a resemblance to the cutout on the S21 ultra (just with a few changes). This device packs power and elegance and beckons on consumers to spend their money on it.

As you know the gadget world is very competitive, with newer devices trying as much as they can to out shine older devices and even present competition. Certainly, Samsung A32 is a new and competitive device, but how will it perform against its very own?

The Samsung Galaxy A12 is also a device that showed that Samsung as a company paid great attention to detail such as design and performance at an affordable price. In this article we will take these two devices (Samsung Galaxy A12 and Samsung Galaxy A32) in a head-on head collision to see which device stands out as a better option for you.

Notable is the fact that these devices are from two adjacent price points. With the cheaper device, what are you missing, and if you choose to go up the price ladder what do you stand to gain?

Samsung Galaxy A12 and Samsung Galaxy A32: The Similarities

Spec for spec the tides are in favour of the Samsung Galaxy A32. Yet there is an element that is common in the two devices and that is their battery and charging speed. The two midrange devices both pack a long lasting 5000 mAh battery and to push this much battery is a 15W fast charger. Another notable similarity is the screen dimension, the dimensions are quite close as they are just 0.1 inch apart from each other.

Asides from these similarities mentioned it is quite difficult to notice any other similarities while using the smartphone. So, what are the differences?

Samsung Galaxy A12 and Samsung Galaxy A32: The Differences

There are a lot of differences between these two devices, both in their individual looks and performance. Let us start with the display type, a Super AMOLED screen as against a PLS IPS screen, in such a comparison it is better to go with the brighter and more attractive Super AMOLED screen that in effect means picking the Galaxy A32. The location of the fingerprint sensor is also different as the Super AMOLED screen on the A32 supports under display sensors while the A12 houses a side mounted fingerprint sensor.

The two device pack different processors, though from the same manifacturer “MediaTek”, the Galaxy A12 packs the lesser Helio P35 processor while it’s counterpart houses the Helio G80 processor which is better optimized for gaming. Thanks to the processor on the Galaxy A32 it can refresh it’s screen at 90Hz, so if you want to jump around your device swiftly and experience minimum lag the Galaxy A32 is the way to go.

Of course the Galaxy A12 takes good photos with it’s 48MP main camera and I can personally say that at its price the photos it takes stand out, but Samsung took photography to a new height with the Galaxy A32’s 64MP main camera and also it’s higher powered complimentary cameras. Also the Galaxy A32 gains even better in photography with it’s more powerful processor, pictures come out clearer and with less noise than we see on the A12.

If you are really crazy about higher storage capacities then the Galaxy A32 brings more options to the table for you with it’s wider storage variants. The highest storage capacity for the Galaxy A12 is 128GB with it’s ROM and that is the same on the Galaxy A32. When comparing the RAM capacities of these two devices the Galaxy A12 reaches it peak at 4GB whereas that is just the starting point for the Galaxy A32 as it highest RAM variant is 8GB.

Samsung Galaxy A12 and Samsung Galaxy A32 Comparison: Conclusions

To conclude the comparison between these devices, we will like to point out that their pricing, as stated earlier, is very different. One costs way more than the other.

The Galaxy A12 costs from $135 while the Galaxy A32 costs from $260. With the Galaxy A32, you are paying more for an obviously better device. But if you just need a good device at a rather affordable price, then the Galaxy A12 will serve you pretty well.
