The first Wi-Fi 8 breakthrough has been successfully achieved by TP-Link, paving the way for the next generation of wireless networking. While Wi-Fi 7 is focused on speed, the highlight of Wi-Fi 8 is stability and seamless connectivity through Multi-AP Coordination.
Wi-Fi 7 was introduced by the Wi-Fi Alliance just last year in 2024. In just a year, plans for Wi-Fi 8 are already in motion. TP-Link is a company popular for its routers and home security solutions, and they are the first to successfully demonstrate the Wi-Fi 8 technology.
TP-Link demonstrates first Wi-Fi 8 connection

According to TP-Link , they managed to achieve the world’s first Wi-Fi 8 connection with a prototype device developed through a joint industry partnership. The test successfully validated both the Wi-Fi 8 beacon and data throughput, proving the technology’s readiness and marking a major step forward in Wi-Fi 8 development. It is set to provide the ultra-reliable wireless performance needed to support the growing number of connected devices and data-heavy applications.
How is Wi-Fi 8 any different from Wi+Fi 7?
The Wi-Fi version you use determines the speed, bandwidth, and other features. Wi-Fi 7 is mainly concerned about speed, but the case is different for Wi-Fi 8. Qualcomm states that the goals of Wi-Fi 8 include keeping devices online with stable connections. It’s more about maintaining a reliable connection, not just being fast. By making use of Multi-AP Coordination, access points work together for smooth roaming and more uniform coverage.
On the other hand, Wi-Fi 7 focuses more on Multi-Link Operation (MLO) to connect individual devices across multiple bands simultaneously for better performance. Wi-Fi 8 works quite differently. In environments with many devices, multiple access points, or competing networks, Multi-AP Coordination ensures smoother performance and more efficient connectivity. It remains fast without losing a stable connection.
To sum it up, TP-Link has confirmed that W-iFi 8 is now possible for electronic devices. The company didn’t give details as to when Wi-Fi 8 will launch or when the first Wi-Fi 8-enabled devices will make their debut.

Foldable phones are becoming more popular with companies like Samsung and Google at the frontline. Even Apple is set to join to the trend. Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is one of the newest foldables, making its debut earlier this month.

Some users are sceptical about foldable phones. The fear of snapping in two, sitting on it by accident and things like that. Costing half as much extra as regular Pixel smartphones, one has to confirm just how durable it is. A popular YouTuber, JerryRigEverything, is known for carrying out durability tests on smartphones to see just how much they can withstand. In one of his latest videos, he tested the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, giving viewers a look of how strong the latest foldable is.
Foldable worst fears confirmed
Foldable phones have a delicate design. Even fingernails leave a dent on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold screen. The YouTuber reveals in his test that the hinge isn’t properly protected even with an IP68 rating. In the video, when he put sand on the hinge, it made its way into the groove, making a crackling sound as the phone was folded and unfolded. The YouTuber notes the Pixel 10 Pro Fold seems to be weak near its antenna lines just like its predecessors.
When pressure is applied in this area, the phone snaps easily. To lengthen the span, users should careful of the design flaw. On applying more pressure during the test, the phone battery experienced a short circuit and exploded. JerryRigEverything commented it was the first time he saw a Pixel foldable blow up that way. It further confirms that subjecting the foldable to extreme pressure can be dangerous.
The YouTuber notes that the tests are extreme and solely for the purpose of confirming design claims, and that phones will not be subject to such conditions under normal circumstances. Still, watching a $1,799 phone get broken that easily is a bit disheartening. For those who worry about their phones’ durability, it is advisable to buy an additional warranty to cover accidental damage just to be safe, without worrying about the durability of a device.
