Most changes to Google Maps after updates usually go unannounced. It isn’t until you open the app and use it that you realise that there’s something slightly different about it. The same thing has happened, but this time with the Suggested Destinations dropdown.

Users are used to the Suggested Destinations expanding automatically once the app is launched, whether or not they need it. A Reddit user, steelbreeze9 , posted that the Suggested Destinations dropdown did not expand when Google Maps launched on Android Auto through their Pixel 10 Pro XL. It was only when they clicked on it that the Search and Suggested Destinations list displayed in full screen.

With this new minor change, navigating through the Destinations is easier than using the smaller dropdown. Also for users who did not find the dropdown destinations helpful, this saves them the time of closing the Suggested Destinations each time Google Maps launches.
There are still users who prefer the dropdown feature, like those who frequently visit multiple locations. They now have to open the destinations list.
